Why do you want to build a power station in Wrexham?

Wrexham is well located close to the national gas transmission system and National Grid’s Legacy Substation. This provides a nearby source of gas and a point at which a power station can connect to the national electricity transmission system. In addition, from a national perspective there is an imbalance of supply and demand in the area.

On top of this, the Wrexham Industrial Estate provides a suitable setting for a power station as it is a home to large manufacturing industries, which require secure power to operate and possesses excellent transport links.

How will it work?

Our gas-fired power station will incorporate Combined Cycle Gas Turbine technology (CCGT). CCGT power stations make use of gas turbines to drive generators. The exhaust gas from the gas turbine is used to produce steam. The steam is fed into a second turbine that drives a separate generator, producing more electricity.

What will the community gain?

While our proposed power station will benefit the entire UK by ensuring demand for electricity continues to be met, for Wrexham it will lead to:

  • up to 1,200 construction jobs
  • up to 50 permanent jobs
  • the increased competitiveness of the Wrexham Industrial Estate through sale of discounted heat, gas and power.
  • the power supply to the Wrexham Industrial Estate will be upgraded, protecting over 300 businesses and 7,000 existing employees.
